Paris! Blasphemy I say...the green fairy is your friend...
Dying to hear how it all went...anyone?.....anyone?

I think there is a few sore heads out there today so we may be waiting awhile haha
The green fairy is bad....which has ruined my day completely HOWEVER....Although it did make me stumble on more than one occasion, and remove items of clothing I probably shouldn't have...I dont think it clouded my judgement enough to say that I wasn't the only one in the room last night to have witnessed the Best! Show! Ever! hahaha
So the best thing for me was that it was a good sized crowd (dont ask me how many...but it seemed full from where I was) and now that everyone has their hands on the album, it was a MAJOR singalong!
And now...I have to fly but I will come back with more details later!
PS..Shazza we found you there!
Ummm keh! How Gemma!?
And instead of just dropping in with little injokes we don't get.....GIVE US A REVIEW!!
Please :)

Ditto Shaz!!! Shes a tease that Gemma!
mands:)
26-04-09, 05:49 PM
Lol @ Shaz's comment.
Gemma...get your pretty ass back here and give us the goss!
Oh...I didn't mean for it to be like that...I was just suffering and that was the best I could do at the time ..so I am SOOOOOORRY!!!
OK..I just dont know that I am the best person to review this show. I have to confess that I have never been so (Aussie) pissed and still been upright. It was pretty messy before Paris pulled out the absinthe shots and I really should have stopped there...
I will try and do my best...
Lauren and I arrived at the hotel which was 2 doors from Step Inn, and met with Meg, Donna, Jenny and Julie (if you squint it was you Shaz!!) and we had a pre party in a very small room...Not long after Paris, Lana and Anita turned up and we headed off thinking we could get something to eat at the venue, but after a quick scan (no food) and another couple of drinks (no appetite) told me I was going in on an empty stomach...so while the sensible among us went for a trip to the Golden Arches, Paris, Lana, Anita and myself stayed behind, drank, played Space Invaders and I remember dancing to the first band on (?) and in my mind at the time they were totally awesome, but looking back I think my judgement was already clouded....
Now it was about this time that I have lost all recollection of order of events, so in no particular order...
What started with Dale and Jay signing my arm turned into full body graffiti (that was all of us, not just me)..All sense of class and respectibility was lost..
There was a visit to the Den Adult Shoppe across the road - I remember I was there with 2 others, but what worries me the most is I have absolutely no idea who it was I was there with (remind me please...)
There were 2 visits to my room with the girls where some questionable photographs were taken...
Stone Parade were awesome.
I think missed Town Hall Steps
And Juke were on fire! Like I said the crowd size was perfect, everyone sang along..I rocked out in my own world and had an entire blast. I do recall telling myself that I really needed to keep my eyes open so I didn't miss a thing, but it was quite a challenge. In fact I thought that Toby was wearing a white T shirt...but the photos I have seen on Facebook today tell me he was wearing a black T-Shirt, which just goes to prove I shouldn't be reviewing...
Set list - December, Scars, Innocence, My Baby, Sublime Truth, If Only, On Fire, Throw it Away, What ya Gonna Do, Save Me
So for my 3rd gig of the tour I have to say it was the best..Not too big like Gaelic, not too small like Wyong but Juuuuuust Riiiiight!
I was camera-less so no photos from me, but the others got plenty as they do.
Can't wait until they get back to Sydney! Yaaaaay!
LOL..God I love it Gemma! I'm pretty sure most of us have been to atleast one JK gig and been so (Aussie) pissed that we don't remember alot of details, but we do know we had a great time!!! :)

its so bad
They call it the Green Fairy and in Moulin Rouge, Kylie Minogue plays the Green fairy on the Absynthe bottle that comes to life after the bohemians have a shot of absynthe.
Apparently rumour has it that you hallucinate after having an absynthe shot which is bullshit but it is very strong and if you do a proper shot (pour over sugar & light up), it will creep up on you and next thing you know, you are climbing rafters, signing boobs, arms and legs and taking not for public viewing photos on someones bed in a hotel room. Haha.
Oh and Gemma....that was not me that got the shot...Lana told the barman 6 shots of whatever, toby wanted Tequilla but before we knew it, we were served green shots by a smirking barman and it wasn't even a fully green fairy shot, it was vodka with a bit of absynthe so can you imagine if we had the full shot!!! Lmao.
A funny story about the effects of absinthe on a man who has probably put more alcohol away than all of us combined..
OK It's long...but you have nothing better to do...and you WILL laugh!
And I have gone waaaaay off topic here for some reason at least!
OK...I did a re-read and decided not to make it easy enough to link, as the story quite possibly breaches site rules....but I can tell you that it is the absinthe donuts story on TuckerMax.com!
And PS....Wasn't smirking barman supposed to have some certificate in responsible service of alcohol? LOL
mands:)
27-04-09, 09:43 PM
I think an alcohol thread is needed! Hmm...not too sure about people giving unknowing drinkers absinthe shots. It's brutal...and if you don't know you're having it that's even worse
...it's an interesting drink though. Little trivia...lot of people thought it was drinking absinthe that caused van Gogh to go mad...some even say he was drinking it when he cut his ear off...at least you ladies have all your bits still attached ;)

Not sure now Mands, if I do I won't be going near any green Fairies! We have to be at Funfields at Whittlesea the next day! (Tobogan rides and "Green Fairies" don't mix!!) Im def going to the Espy.

My God, it sounds like an "interesting" drink!!! I'm an alcho :whist: from way back, Why I have I never heard of it before now? (Maybe I have been too busy with the basics for 20 years) Not too sure if I would try it (me, hanging from the rafters???, not a sight I would inflict on anyone :scared: and I would bring the roof down)
Great reviews, girls. Love hearing them all.
I have wanted to try absynthe for eons! A 700ml bottle at the local Deli will set you back $100.
What is it's taste similar to? Or is it a taste all on it's own?

Its not a liquorice flavour...hard to say because it was mixed with something. All I know is that there was 6 people with stunned looks and trying to catch our breath once we had the shot. Was very strong and thats about all I can remember:whist:

I know a few people I'd like to give a few shots of absinthe too. Never tried the stuff but from my understanding it's illegal in the US, which means another reason to get to Australia!

Ah gemma you were hilarious..I think you had the most writing on you from your chest down to your legs :LMAO:
The gig was awesome..Toby was hanging from the rafters, went into the audience and got on the shoulders of some guy during TIA..
Meg
Brisbane - wow! This ended up being the party night of the 5 even though it wasn't the gig with an actual after-party!
The place was packed & already quite full for Stone Parade who were clearly enjoying themselves on stage. - This was the best I'd seen them. I enjoyed rockin' out to SP together with Kat & was proud of how well those boys did. Greg was even taking a leaf out of Toby's book by singing on top of (admittedly not very high) amps, etc.
Then after SP the mayhem began... & that was BEFORE JK even hit the stage!
Meg & I were at the bar getting drinks when Meg was pointing out one of the weirdest looking people I'd ever seen! It looked like some old dude in drag! Looked totally out of place! Then the next thing we know there's a massive punch up next to us with glass flying everywhere at head height! I'm so glad at that stage the other ST gals were still in the room where the gig was because there would've surely been some major injuries otherwise! - It was apparently over someone pushing in at the bar.
Once the mess was cleaned up, the ST gals gathered in that same area. Then next thing you know the signings the boys normally do after the show came early! Only this time it was ST girls signing each others arms, legs, chests, faces, whatever they could!! Gemma virtually had full body graffiti! It was hilarious!
JK hit the stage & were clearly happy to play to a packed crowd but knew early on they were under time constraints due to the venue closing early for Anzac Day. The boys were told before the gig that the house lights go on & stage power goes out at 12 midnight on the dot & I tell you what they weren't jokin'!
The setlist went like this:
December - with Toby instantly hanging from the rafters & the entire packed room getting into it straight away with arm waving & singing the "yeah yeahs" in the breakdown - it was an amazing start!
Scars - this song seems to be becoming more & more of a favourite with the crowds as more people would've now heard the album before the gigs.
Innocence - with "Mr Jay Pinfold" getting an early intro from Toby & quite rightly so with the live version of this song's driving drum beat & the audience's hands in the air clapping at the start. - Once again sounded brilliant! - The other thing that was very noticeable for the 1st time in this song was some new sound effects that James Anderson on sound was experimenting with. - Lots of echoing effects on Toby's vocals & also effects on the guitars - this was the best I've heard this song so far & by now Toby's voice was well & truly warmed up.
Then She Said - fantastic!
My Baby - awesome once again with the crowd right into it singing along & loads of arm waving/finger pointing at the stage going on & Toby walking well into the audience for the "da-da-da-da's" & clearly loving a bunch of blokes singing (yelling!) along with him!
If Only - nicely done acoustic style as usual
On Fire - WOW!!! - This song always sounds great & has a new, special, emotional meaning for the boys since Jamie 'Bizzo' Grima's passing, but for me on this occasion it became the single standout performance of any song over the 5 days. I really felt it & was nearly in tears by the end of the song, not just because of the Jamie connection & Toby dedicating it to him once again but this was Toby Rand & the entire band at their very best. & James' sound effects were once again sensational. Loads of echoey effects & Toby's perfect vocals being extended more than he already extends them himself! (Hope that makes sense??). Even the end of the song was amazing with Toby trying a few new things with his voice & James quickly catching on with the effects. I videoed this performance & I can't stop watching it. In the few short months I've known the JK family, I've seen continued growth in everyone, but this left me speechless. The band knew they did well too. Toby asked me afterwards how I thought it sounded & I said "amazing". But then after rewatching the video, I told him the next day that I'm changing my comment to "insanely beautiful". He asked if he could see the video & you could tell he was proud. Amazingly his verbal response to the video was "I just wanna keep learning what I can do with my voice". & that's one of the many reasons this band just keeps getting better, because each & every member is so focused on improvement when they are already so great.
Throw It Away - as if the crowd wasn't rockin' enough already, this is where everyone went absolutely nuts!! I watched this song from the very back of the room & it was an amazing sight!
Jaybro's drum solo - I'm adding this as a track on the setlist because it was another highlight of the night. After a couple of nights feeling flat (but still playing very well) Jay was stoked playing to a packed crowd. & Toby extended the drum solo by walking on stage halfway through it & asking the crowd "do you guys want more?" & then getting the crowd to chant "Jay-bro, Jay-bro, Jay-bro" which was awesome to see & hear!
What You Gonna Do - another crowd favourite as usual.
Save Me - an awesome end to an awesome show. - The crowd were still right into it & this is where the threat of finishing bang on midnight came into play. I once again went to the back of the room to watch this song & take in the crowd reaction, & as JK were a couple of minutes over the midnight cut-off time, just as Toby got into the final chorus the house lights came on & JK just kept playing of course! At least they got to see from stage that the room was still full & everyone was still rockin'. At the start of the last note, the power to Toby's microphone was cut out & you could clearly still hear that massive last "yeah" from Toby soaring right to the back of the room "a-cappella" style.
The venue was in such a hurry to close that the CD signings took place on the street outside!
What a massive night. Everyone was on a high after that night on the 2 hour drive back to the Gold Coast (but also so tired that everyone just went straight to bed afterwards! - All the partying was done during the gig itself!).
Such a beautiful review, Danny. Do you have a degree in journalism?! And although Thank You does not reflect the depth of my gratitude, Thank You nevertheless!!!
