View Full Version : Toby and Dale acoustic at the Greyhound. 22/08/08
Toby and Dale played a surprise acoustic set at the Greyhound on the 22nd August, 2008. If anyone has pics or reviews, please share them.
I don't intend to go into a full review at the risk of repeating myself with previous shows.
This was a really lovely, laid back acoustic, with the wonderful surprise of Toby accompanying Dale. How perfect!
The boys were on first for the night but the crowd was a really good size considering it was so early. Everyone gathered around the stage to be serenaded by the two maestros and their beautiful melodies.
Without all the Juke rock (which I adore fyi) surrounding them it really gave us the opportunity to hear Toby's vocals in all their splendour....not unlike the Toby we knew back in RSSN. But he was, better, smoother. He hit the high notes amazingly, and the low notes mesmerisingly. I lost my breath when he held those long tones throughout his performance. Lord Toby can sing! (de ja vu) He's so strong yet so gentle. He never fails to draw the tears to my eyes when I hear him.
Dale was wonderful on both vocals and guitar. He let rip with a few blues break outs and Toby and he talked to each other with their strings. They really complimented each other.
I didn't take more than a few photos, I wanted to hear them completely, without distraction. They were so beautiful and my night was full even though it was only just beginning.
They started with December....so haunting, then followed with Sleeptalker...a lyrically beautiful piece which has weaved it's way into my heart. TIA acoustic followed....with my memory of Bourke St and the first time I heard those incredible boys perform live. Next, the cover, Free Fallin'....soooo sweet! Especially with the reference to the "good girl" who's "crazy 'bout Elvis" lol. Not for me but I wanted to own it ha!
Save Me followed and I had chills thinking of how defining this song will be for all of us combined in the next few weeks. I'm emotional now thinking of it.
I was so proud and moved. Toby and Dale finished off with If Only another tear jerker for me. >>SOOK<< :)
A truly touching performance by both beautiful men....and, as always it was over far too soon.

On a non-performance note, Todd was flat out for the night. He was guitar tech for all the bands I think. He was rushing around like a blue-arsed fly and thoroughly enjoying it LOL
Nicky from Jaded made a mention that Juke Kartel opened for them haha! They were a bit daunted to have to follow them though.
Tommy made a request that we find Mrs Right for him....I think her name is Drew or something ;)
And Toby grabbed me for the bday shot he promised me. Tommy ran up afterwards wanting in so we had to go again. The most disgusting tequila and the BEST shots I have ever skulled in my life!
Now that is the kind of surprise I love!!! Thanks for another awesome review Adelle!!! :)

I so know what you mean about Toby's voice too....just buy hearing the new songs. It is incredible! I didn't think his voice could get any better but it has. And Dale, I'm really enjoying hearing his music too...fabulous voice he has!

Manda look on facebook....I think I'm the only sucker who didn't get a pic with the boys! Try to do the non-harrassment thing and I'm so envious of everyone else, but they, JK, appreciate the break from it.

No problem Joyce, glad to share. I didn't take my "good" camera on the night so I made do with my "cheap" one (that way I don't have to spend much replacing it if I lose it after a few too many drinks!..lol)
This made me "giggle". I introduced my Husband Karl to Toby on Friday night..(hubby has never seen Toby or JK perform before) So I said to Toby "this is Karl" .. Toby shook his hand and said " hey Mate, Toby.. how ya going?" I was reading Karls mind, bet he was thinking "I KNOW, I look at your pic daily in my bloody kitchen mate". But Karl said later..."Well, at least he had a firm handshake" As Shaz said to me... "don't ya love how men judge on handshakes!"

My friend ( Angel ) hubby met Toby @ Gunnamatta & he said he is a cool guy...really friendly
Toby always seems to make sure he makes people feel comfortable & important ...
Angels hubby ( Paul ) was even more impressed that Toby knew my name... He said "OMG first name basis with The Rand" :flirt:
