A few picks from the after party at the Thrsty Toad
From my friend Chrissy
The show rocked -- the show you really wanted to be at was at the afterparty, though, because that was smokin'. I will post a review soon, I promise, but I'm swamped with work (for work) tonight. Deadlines, continuing employment, etc. (I know. Where are my priorities? ;))
Apologies for the delay... it's been a busy week! Tuesday was smashing. The boys totally rocked Centrepointe Theatre, but as I said earlier, the place you really wanted to be was the after party at the Thirsty Toad, they must have played for twice as long there than the set at the actual concert. The Centrepointe show opened with "Firesign," which for me was fantastic, since that's a fave. Before the show, I was mildly disappointed to learn that they don't play "Bring Me Down" anymore, but that's totally more than okay, since all the tunes rock so much!
Centrepointe is a sit-down type venue, so a little different than the rest of their shows have been. It makes you want to haul everyone up out of their seats, but they did an awesome job of that. Someone gave Toby a blanket, he ended up using it, sitting on it for a bit during the performance. (See pic below... heh, security gave up on people not taking pictures.)

Someone also gave him red underwear (???)... interesting, LOL. Loved it when they did "Robbie's Song"... loved everything, actually! "My Baby" was another highlight for me, and of course, everyone got right into "Throw It Away." Eddie is amazing on that drum kit. They are all fantastic performers -- great dynamic together, very entertaining whether singing or talking, which for me is a huge thing. (Have seen a LOT of bands play, and they can have great songs, but the interaction and audience connection has to be there! For JK, it most definitely is.) Good, solid rock. I can't wait for the album to be finished and come out, it should have mass appeal!
The meet and greet before the show was fantastic. There was a little bit of confusion that made it almost not happen, because when we got there, we learned that there was no merch table (wasn't being set up until the after party at the Thirsty Toad) and that's where I'd been told to go, and the Centrepointe manager was all, "Yeah, and I have your tickets to Tahiti, too." It was soon figured out, though, muchly thanks to the very awesome, kind management and promoter, so my friend and I went back. Todd was the only one there when we got there, so we started chatting with him, and Tommy, Toby and Eddie soon came in. Introductions, and Toby gave me a big hug, and I gave them something I'd brought for them all. Dale came in soon after that, and we spent awhile sitting in there, chilling and talking.
Toby took some pics, including this one of he and I (I was told to do that face!)

One of the crew grabbed the camera to take this picture of all of us:

We hung out until Toby started warming up, playing a guitar and singing, which was about 10 or 15 minutes before they went on. As everyone has said, they're all awesome, very welcoming, easygoing, and fun. It was a very memorable evening for me, and I'm so glad I got to go, so THANK YOU, street team. :)
Here are a couple of pics from the after party... THAT was a rockin' good time. They played their songs, and some covers, and Tommy at one point started in with "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star." Too funny. :) My friend and I went home just before 2 a.m. (had to be up at 6 a.m., boo), but the after party had been winding down by then. All week I've been wishing that it was still Tuesday night!

Forgive me I am not the best writer in the world and the concert was almost three weeks ago but I will do my best. I was at the Storm Large show in Ottawa in October when they announced that JK would be coming on December 5th. Tears formed in my eyes cause I was so excited that they would be playing in a pub and it would be really small and easy to see. A couple of weeks before the show they announced that it would be at the Centrepointe theatre. Call me selfish but I was a little disappointed that I would have to see them in a theatre and not a pub, so I flew to Chicago to see them at the Abbey!! I got row B for Centrepointe so I was really excited to see them in this type of venue too. Ottawa is a 2 hour drive from Montreal so I left work at 4:30 and with traffic and all we arrived at the same time as JK. The theatre was really nice and the boys were really excited to be playing there so I was excited for them. No one was in the front row seats so we moved up there. The sound was amazing; they were great, another great show. I was NOT disappointed at all.
That's me that Toby is singing too, I got to do the oh oh oh oh oh part in Chicago and Ottawa!!

The day prior they announced there would be an after party for 15$. I hesitated going cause I was lucky to meet the band in Chicago and had pictures with all of them and well it was another 2 hour drive home! We decided we would check it out for an hour or 2 so we drove to the pub. There were not a lot of people there, we got to chat with the boys quite a bit and they were drinking and having a great time so I was super happy. I have one bad habit (yes only one lol) I smoke, so I went out for one with Tommy. He was sweet and cold out there. We talked for a bit and we said that we would be hitting the road. We said our good byes and then the owner of the pub, Jason, announced the guys would be singing!! Ok so we could stay for a few more minutes, off came the jackets and Tommy just kind of laughed at us for not leaving. I am really glad I stayed, because it was the highlight of my year. The jumped on this tiny stage and sang for over an hour, all unplanned it was great. It gave you a really good sense of what it would be like to have seen JK in OZ at a local pub. They did a few JK tracks to start, If Only which is my fave, TIA and December. Then they started playing Free Fallen, All night Long, Never Tear US Apart, With or Without You, Living on a Prayer, Layla, Superstitious, Groove is in the Heart (I think they might have done 1 or 2 more). Dale did a Marvin Gaye song while Toby went to the bathroom, Tommy disappeared at one point too to go the bathroom and get a drink. It was very spontaneous and Toby sang like he was still competing on the show, he really gave it his all. After they finished we really decided we would be leaving cause it was now after 1 am and I still had the 2 hour drive. We go down the stairs and JK is there talking to fans. My friend and I end up having another long convo with Todd, who is adorable BTW. Sadly we had to say this is enough (I know we are nuts but we had to go to work the next morning) Todd almost made me take a breathalyser test but I swore to him I had 1 beer the whole night. We then had a ten minute convo where he made me promise (repeatedly) and I mean over an over again to drive carefully, he is so nice, they all are. The whole band kissed and hugged us good bye and thanked us for coming. . It was as if we had just been at their house for dinner. It was a truly magical night for JK fans, I feel privileged to have been there. They are truly awesome and they are going to be so huge.
Ok Let me finally post more pictures!! Sorry my review is long...
