View Full Version : Toledo, OH
Sorry! Had to work and can't get on to the site there.
The boys rocked in Toledo! A suprisingly very small crowd but it didn't matter to the guys. I tried to do a set list but I was taking photos and got all wound up in that. I think the highlight song for me would have to be December. Beautiful. I loved watching Todd perform. He's so into it; whipping that hair around :) I loved when Toby went acoustic for Throw it Away because then he wasn't covering his face with his hands and the mic. Whitestarr was running all over the house with a video camera. I believe they video taped the whole JK set from one vantage point or another. They said it was for VH1. A very interesting group that one (I use the term interesting loosely). I wish we would have had more than 2 weeks to get bodies to the show. Toledoans missed an awesome act. I told Toby that we'd do better if they gave us another chance sometime. He said he loved the venue (it's an older small theater converted to a dance club converted to a concert club..kinda got a retro feel to it with multi levels etc). I met Toby before the show at the bar when he came out for a bit. The others were here and there but seemed occupied so I didn't want to interfere. He was so nice. My husband went and introduced himself and I got their pic. I introduced myself quickly too but couldn't really talk because another band was playing. I figured I'd get to talk more during the meet and greet but it ended up that we didn't have one. My husband was already drunk (thank you Whitestarr for the Jag shots oy) so my pic with Toby was a close up of just our heads and blurry..nice. I ended up remedying that (with someone else manning the camera) after the show. It did take several times though because we'd start talking or laughing. There was only a handful of people hanging out and we took our turns getting pics and talking etc. I think we ended up talking about for about 45 min. He is so down to earth and I just love his wicked sense of humor. You just feel like you're the only person in the room when he's talking to you. The perfect ending...a kiss on the cheek goodbye. There will be pics..watch for them at JK.com and the JK street team. I took some pics of others after the show with Toby and Eddie but I don't want to post without their permission so once I have that, I'll post them.
I don't have any with the other guys because they were sitting behind a table that you couldn't get behind. By the time they came out, I was talking with Toby. Here are a couple of he and I:

I got permission from Julie to post her and her daughter Ashley's pics. They are going to try to post their review.

Okay I am sitting at the computer and Magic School Bus is on. That should give me a half hour to write my review. Here goes...wish me luck.
Juke Cartel in Frogtown
December 3rd was a cold day here in Toledo. I was one of those brave souls who ventured out into the cold for an evening of Rock n' Roll. We were in for several surprises. The first surprise is that it was a private concert. :o Who knew. :o Anyone who wanted a front row seat had one. We chose to sit back and take everything in. I would have liked to see Toledo represent itself better and have the place sell out. But their loss is our gain. Then we learned that there would be a total of 5 bands playing that night. The first two were, I believe, local bands and both rocked the house. The third, DriveBlind, were from Scotland. They did an awesome job and have made some new fans. Next came on Whitestar. They were an eclectic bunch. Alot to see and some colorful personalities. As they were performing Toby came in. He sang a little with Whitestar and watched the them perform.
During the intermission, as they were setting up for Juke Kartel, my daughter Ashley noticed a guy with spiky hair. He was setting up the drum kit. It was probably the best intermission she has ever set through. ;)
As the Juke Kartel was coming out...out came spiky hair guy...ready to rock in true drummer fashion. A little slice of heaven for Ashley. That may have been her favorite part of the show.
Juke Kartel was awesome. They rocked the show and sounded great. I think Throw it Away was my favorite song. Started out mellow with Toby playing Acoustic Guitar. They built it up to the fun and powerful song we knew from Rockstar. I have heard the song both was and love it both ways so it was a double win for me.
After the show was over I met Lisa. We had been at several of the same shows but our paths had never crossed. It was great to meet Lisa. I have been a fan of her photography and can't wait to see the pics she took on Sunday.
Being a private show we had plenty of time to talk to JK. Everyone signed her shirt and talk with us. She got her picture taken with Eddie, McDrummer, and Toby. Being a teenager she had to share here joy ( or brag) and call her friend, Alyssa. She asked Toby to say hi to Alyssa on the phone, which he did and more. Thanks Toby...Alyssa yelled at me for not bringing her with us. As we were talking with Eddie he asked if Rockstar Supernova as playing anywhere near us. They are playing about an hour away from here in Detroit. When Rockstar Supernova was still on I had debated about getting tickets but wanted to wait until I saw who they would pick. Since that time I thought they had sold out. I went online and found out they haven't sold out. After Sunday's show our plan is now to go. I don't think Ashley will let me live in peace if I don't take her. Just got to figure out who I want to take.
Well, that is my review...took about 3 Magic School Busses...thank goodness for TIVO.
Next I will try to get Ashley to give her teenage review.
