Toby, Tommy and Dale performed on Friday at The Palais theatre on the esplanade of St Kilda, Melbourne. Please post your reviews here.

We arrived just after 7pm and stepped from the taxi to stand in front of The Palais, the grandest, oldest looking theatre on the waterfront of beautiful Port Phillip Bay. The evening was balmy and the air soft as we stepped amid the crowd queueing excitedly at the entrance.
Upon stepping inside we were enveloped by a musty, rich and regal air. The Palais grabbed us and hugged us like an old friend....one with plenty of class. The deep burgundies and thick, gold brocades everywhere adorned the old girl proudly. I fell in love with this wonderful theatre!
We made our way to the merch table to grab another chemical dreaming JK t-shirt, it's important to put your priorities in order lol. I was delighted to see a group of people ahead of me purchasing the same top and I felt like patting them on the back.
Time was of the essence so we gravitated to our seats in row W and made the whole line-up stand so we could fit past them haha.
I plonked myself down and raised my eyes to the stage to find I was directly centre to Toby on stage. Closer would have been preferable but once they broke into their set, proximity wasn't an issue.
Smoking Gun drifted out to me soulfully and I was convinced the guys were singing it just for me, it being my utmost favourite but my ego does tend to get the better of me at times and I suppose there were several hundred others in the room hehe.
I don't know if it was the magic of the theatre, the anticipation of the crowd, the immense size of the auditorium, the sheer brilliance of Juke or a combination of the lot but they sounded so strikingly smooth and deep and beautiful. My heart swelled as it's wont to do with these boys and I looked to my friend in wonderment.
Each song was as touching as the last and during the interludes Toby amused us with his wit and warmth, gorgeous Tommy having his comic input as well.
Juke's sweet melodies sent invisible, delicate tendrils of enticement out to each and every individual, swathing us in it and entertwining us into a collective whole. What a magic night this was!
December was alluring and Toby's vox sweet like honey and smooth as velvet, his pitch superb. He rythmically beat the tambourine and Tommy and Dale were resplendent with their backing vox. Juke hit a lacuna and the crowd broke out in applause, bewitched into thinking the song had finished, then they continued and the buzz lulled to hear the refrain's close.
Toby wished his mum a happy birthday in four hours time and went on to the next tune.
Dale expertly plucked his strings, emitting a wonderful intro of blues and I excitedly turned to my mate again (sorry Kaz haha) exclaiming this must be a new song! And they gently broke into the beautiful, acoustic Throw It Away, not new but to me ever classic. It drew me back in time to when I first heard these fascinating artists live...the day they first publicly played TIA acoustic...at Bourke St in their hometown. Ahhh how blessed I was to be experiencing this again! The boys got the crowd oh ohing mid song and everyone joined in. Toby led us into a bout of clapping and we did so with fervor. It was wonderful and I felt so proud.
The final song, "In the air tonight" was so touching and mellow. The echoes of it carrying out to those of us towards the back. Too lovely for words.
So soon it was over but strangely enough I felt fulfilled and replete for having heard this beautiful show.
I'm still unclear as to which of their sounds I prefer; acoustic or plugged, so I must concede defeat and surrender to the magic of both.
