Toby was genuinely happy for these to go up. He didn't dictate permission or anything like that. He's not like that.
It was nice to see them in this relaxed atmosphere without the "rockstar" treatment...although they bloody deserved it!

My review on the Espy gig. It's written for my blog, hence it's mighty length lol. And again I've put my heart on my sleeve but that's me and I'm hitting the button so it's out there now.
I went to see Juke Kartel recently at the infamous Espy and they were so amazing I just had to put my views down in print.
We arrived early in the hopes of avoiding a JK throng. Fortunately they were on later that evening so we cruised on in with not a problem.
The Espy welcomed us with it's old, peeling interior and history of past, rocking bands embedded in the walls. I love the character of this place! No frills or refinement, just a raw and rough venue focused solely on hosting pure, Aussie rock at it's finest.
There were a few bands on before Juke. They were good and one in particular stood out. Missfire. I'd been wanting to see these guys for a while and they didn't disappoint.
The crowd was cruisy as it always is in this venue. Just normal, everyday Aussies out for a good night. I expected it to be more packed than it was because my crowd factor gauge, how long it takes to grab a beer from the bar, was only a few minutes.
I noticed a buzz in the air and realised the boys must have arrived. They exude this presence, an enigmatic aura so to speak and I immediately get nervous that I'm in the company of stars. Their down-to-earth nature and approachability should relieve me of this....but it doesn't.
Crowd factor gauge....still a few minutes and I'm silently amazed by this. Surely the place should be throbbing in anticipation of Juke Kartel, a band far more deserving of an arena style setting.
Towards the end of the final act before Juke I used my savvy and made my way closer to the stage, trying to look interested in the band currently playing but inwardly focused on the performance ensuing. Wonderland were great but they weren't Juke.
The Juke boys set up their gear reasonably quickly but not fast enough for my building enthusiasm. The crowd factor gauge had reached a good twenty minutes but I daren't grab myself grog for fear of losing my prime position!
Four gorgeous guys are on stage, primed and ready to thump our heads in and steal us away, mercifully. The crowd is pressing at my back and a six foot fella makes his way in front of me. Nuh uh I demand! Keep on movin' buddy! He does so with a smile and little objection lol. Hey! This is Juke we're talking about! :)
Toby runs out centre stage, say's g'day or something to that effect and so it begins.......
The sea of bodies becomes a fluid, encompassed, entranced unit swept up in the passion pumped out by these stars!
They give it their all from go to woh , the crowd screams with delight and punches the air with their devil horns in appreciation.
Toby's pouncing everywhere, a block of seething, masculine energy creating a collective swoon amongst the x chromosones in the crowd. Rivulets of sweat are pumping from his system, all of their systems from the power they're expelling!
Eddie becomes an animal on those skins. A primal force driving him through the physically demanding energy he needs to thump our faces in!
Todd is doing head banging acrobatics and wrapping us into his brilliance. I love love love his energy! He gets so into his performance that I'm aware we're getting 500% every time we see him.
Dale, my fucking God! Can I find the appropriate words? I think not but I'll try. Existential! Cataclysmic! Superb beyond belief! I swear that man is not holding a guitar but has it growing from his limbs! How else could he be so adept with it?!
And cool, gorgeous Tommy on bass. He does my head in with the depth he brings to the band and he negotiates that bass like he would a beautiful babe. I particularly LOVE his bass in Smoking Gun! Listen for it when you get it. Fucking amazing!
So of course I miss the set list. There's no way you can be systematic when being dragged along by these guys. Everything else clouds into oblivion and you just JK it.
Toby made several dedications with his songs, one to Mum Rand, love his heart! He shared his mike with many mouths in the crowd, me being one of the privileged and they soothed our ragged souls with the beautiful, melodious If Only.
Hearing My Baby swept me back to the beginning of this journey. I well up when I hear this....sooo......beautiful's not the word....enticing, exquisite!
And Long Way is freaking amazing how they've refined it! Can you guess? I fucking LOVED it!! LOL
My heart is in my throat and I'm mesmerised! Who do I focus on now??! Tommy? Todd? Dale? Eddie?.....there he is, the man, The Rand, Toby. A set of pipes not heard by me, and others I'm convinced, since another phenomenal rock star graced this world many moons ago. If you know me, you know who he is.
I've chopped and changed at favourite songs everytime a new one comes out but I think my heart is cemented in Smoking Gun. I'm sure the boys will make me rethink that with any new magic they put out....a bit like their performances getting better and better each time I see them.

I'm a little confused. I read a post here by Kelly last week that said we could not take pictures as this show so I didn't bring my camera. Now I'm seeing pictures posted from the show. What's the story? I guess I should have just asked Toby directly. :rolle:

You know what kelly take them off its not worth the trouble..I flew down and my friend took them from the side..And i did ask permission prior to the show i just thought you guys might like to enjoy them...Judy.
JUdy - please leave your pictures up. We do enjoy them.
As I understand it - the guys did not want a lot of snapping cameras at this show - and they got their wish - with only a few friends and fans taking pics - and I thank you for sharing yours - and also for asking them ahead of time.
Yes, Judy thanks, your pics are great! Thats how I understood it too Jayess. A few people got permission ahead of time and those pics are posted here but for the most part, by express request from Toby there wasnt to be alot of pics snapped at the show to preserve the integrity of the show and venue as well.
As far as I knew Aussiefan..the guys did not really want pictures taken. That's what I was told. However, I am happy to have those who actually took photos post them. Maybe the guys changed their minds at the show? I really don't know, but lets just be glad we've got them. In the future..always bring your camera...even if they don't want pics during the show, they might let you snap one after.

Great shots, Judy. I was next to you at the show and no you didn't inundate the performance with your camera. You rocked out hard lol. Your friend maybe wasn't aware of the protocols, being a non-street teamer.

you should always take at least a disposable camera with you to a concert because you never know.....plus they guys didn't want to be bombarded with flashes but they still want to have some pictures taken....it's hard to make everyone happy and besides people should just be happy they got to see them play live and not stress on the little things. There are a lot of us that didn't get to see them and are thankful for the pictures we do get to see of them.
