SJ very kindly shared her account of the Christchurch show.

Sure I would love to let you know how the chch concert went...IT ROCKED! I was thrilled to see they opened the evening with a relatively new single which is a superb piece of work! The shining moment of their set was when Toby dragged a local teenage boy wearing an Iron Maiden T-shirt onto the stage to duet with him on a Bon Jovi-styled version of Billy Idol's Rebel Yell. The kid did good.

'Throw it away 'was a phenominal classic, starting with the acoustic version then blending perfectly into the harder, hotter version we know and love so much!

Hope this review helps a little bit and I'll find out numbers that attended etc. Although the Christchurch Town Hall is probably a smaller venue than the guys are used to, they all agreed when I spoke to them later that the sound and crowd, along with the response received was one of the best they have had.

Now that rocks! Luv SJ

Went to the show last night. JK were awesome!!!
They played for 1/2 hour. Not sure of the 1st 2 songs. Then played Save Me, December, Rebel Yell, Throw It Away and Highway to Hell. Their set seemed to flow so much better than Rockstar Supernova's did and I enjoyed JK a whole lot more than RSS cos of that. Here are a couple of photos. Sorry they aren't very clear, i wasn't using my flash. I'm in the process of uploading videos but our broadband service over here is severely below par so it may take me a while but they will come.
I was upstairs and really wanted to stand but no one else would with me so I didn't (I know I should have). That kind of disappointed me bout the crowd, I wanted them to get into it more.
Overall JK got an awesome response and when Gilby thanked JK during the RSS set they got a huge clap/cheer/scream. I hope they come back over here sometime and have their own show cos they definately deserve it. That's my small bit. Until my videos upload.

Apparently at the Auckland show there were a few switch arounds.
Tommy Lee was swapping with Eddie so Eddie's playing for SN and Tommy Lee for JK. Toby and Lucas were going to switch and do a duet.

Oh I hope we get to hear about it!

Hey Guys, I don't have a full review of the Auckland concert but I do know that Juke Kartel and Supernova did a duet cover of 'Time After Time' and Supernova did some covers of other songs as well as their original ones and Lukas went into the crowd and stuff. Since it was their last show, they probably wanted to go off feeling good about it lol. Sorry I'm not much help.

I went to their welly gig and have to say I enjoyed JK more than Supernova lol, December was their best performance of the night IMO, harmonies were tight and like always, Toby had the crowd in the palm of his hand :D I loved it when he said "how many guys here tonight?" and you could see hands raise up and a few "yeah!!"'s were heard, then he asked "how about the ladies?" and then there was this deafening scream from all the females (myself included hehe), to which he said, "well, the numbers are in your favour guys, so go out and get some ass tonight!" or something along those lines hahaha! Rebel Yell had fists punching the air during the chorus, Throw it away had everybody singing "oh oh oh oh oh oh!" and Highway to hell had heads banging. It was awesome to see him after the show talking with the fans and giving out autographs, I didn't get there in time to see if i could say hello to him but I did have a reasonably lengthy discussion with Eddie, who is a complete sweetheart, which ended up with me blushing over him stroking my arm at one point and with me asking if I could Kiss him on the cheek goodbye...I have no idea where it came from, I assure you it was a complete spur of the moment thing! LOL ah well...you only live once!!

me and my mate that I went with were upstairs (on the left side facing the stage) and we were kinda like "shall we just go home now?" but as we were on our way towards the exit I heard someone scream downstairs and when I looked down, there was Toby handing out autographs behind the barrier next to the stage. There were quite a few people gathering around but we went down anyway to have a look. Kinda surprised me how fast we finally got to the very front of the barrier because most left as soon as they got an autographed card, i was thinking "why are you leaving so early? more people could come out!" lol but by the time I got to the front Toby was just finishing up with the fans so I called Eddie over who was a few feet away talking to a stage crew dude. I don't think anybody realised who he was until he pulled out his own autographed cards and thats where people started screaming again :P....fun fun stuff :) *sigh* Eddie.....hehe

Haha aww your so lucky. I saw crowds of people to the left of the stage after the show...i guess they were hoping JK would come sign some stuff too but the crowd was so huge so me and my friend didnt bother with it lol. I was wondering why JK didnt come sign come stuff at the Welly show cause i had read all the reviews from the other shows and they had signings at nearly all of them. I really wish i got to talk to them or get them to sign something. Aw well me and my friend touched toby coz he came right up the the barrier thing and we were standing in the 2nd row so we reached out and touched him haha :D

Here is a great review of the Vector Arena show in Auckland:

On Saturday night Rockstar Supernova and Juke Kartel broke in the new Vector Arena and I was lucky enough to be there. I better get the negative stuff out of the way first as overall it was a fantastic show but it was let down by the awful sound. Walking into the Arena it looked fantastic, the layout is really impressive and most importantly the seats were still comfortable after a couple of hours, we also had dinner at the Bistro before hand and the food was excellent.

Now heres the "BUT..." the sound was rubbish, there was a huge amount of echo radiating from around the top of the arena and it really interfered with hearing the band clearly, I have heard a few reports in the media that it was due to the smaller crowd (the venue capacity is 12000 and there were only about 4000 there on Saturday night) but surely it would have been built in such a way that the sound would be perfect for any capacity? or maybe that is to logical...

From where we were sitting (at the right of the stage, about 5 rows back) it wasn't too bad some of the time but I think if you were in the standing area you really wouldn't have heard much at all. The band was definitely the loudest that I have heard but I still think the venue should have been able to handle it. The venue was a huge let down but I tried not to let it ruin the show for me.

Juke Kartel (featuring Toby Rand - which a lot of the people we spoke to didn't seem to realise!) were amazing, my wife and I were big Toby fans (we were on the Randwagon) during the Rockstar Supernova TV series and admittedly the biggest reason we went to the concert was to see Juke Kartel. Toby's stage presence was awesome, the crowd interaction was great, he was constantly grabbing cameras off people in the crowd and taking photos around the stage and having a good chat to everyone. The band was tight and they played a mix of originals and covers (including Rebel Yell which was one of Toby's best songs on the TV show), I would definitely recommend checking out their music. The drummer Eddie Murphy was fantastic to watch and at one point during the last song of their set "Throw it Away", the road crew came up on stage and started pulling his kit apart while he was playing, with nothing but a snare, hi-hats, and bass drum left he belted out the last song while giving the road crew the occasional finger.

As it was the last show of the tour there was a lot of joking round through out the night which was great to see, Gilby's guitar tech was sending different people up on stage to swap guitars (including a lucky St John's staff member) and the whole vibe of the night was fun and relaxed. Both bands came across like very genuine, down to earth people who just love playing music and appreciate the crowds that come out to see them.

After Juke Kartel had whipped everyone up into a rock frenzy it was Supernova's turn, the stage went black and a thumping bass beat kicked in slowly speeding up while the voice of Rossi spoke over the top, unfortunately because of the bad sound I couldn't hear what he was saying. When the guys came out the crowd went crazy, from our seats we had a great view of Tommy Lee which was what I really wanted, we were at the side of the stage which is always the best angle to watch a drummer. He also had a keyboard set up on a higher level and during a few songs would run up and play which was great as he would look right at our side of the stage and wave at everyone.

As a drummer myself I was really looking forward to watching Tommy play, his drum setup was drool worthy and he threw in some great stick tricks made even more impressive by the glow-in-the-dark tips on his sticks. He was really loving the show and was constantly talking to the crowd and running down to the front of the stage and mixing it up with the people including taking a shot from a bottle of jagermeister and then handing it into the crowd asking that it be passed right to the back as everyone took a shot from it - unfortunately the drunk girl at the front of the crowd dropped the bottle and that was the end of that... He also stopped security guards dragging one girl away from the front of the stage and gave her a big hug, a lot of bands these days seem to just stand on stage and play there songs so it was great to see them having some fun with the crowd.

For me crowd interaction is really important as it's what makes the show you go to see unique, if you just want song after song you might as well stay at home and listen to the CD!

Gilby had a small bar setup in front of his amp that would keep any 80s rocker happy! He broke out some great solos and seemed to really get into the music, particularly on the final song - a rocked up version of "Time after time" by Cindy Lauper (no joke) where the Juke Kartel boys joined them on stage and it turned into a massive jam. Gilby and the Juke guitarist were facing each other head banging while Eddie Murphy jumped on drums for the first half of the song then swapped with Tommy Lee to finish it off.

Lukas was quite a surprise, I was never a huge fan of his on the TV show but his voice sounded a lot more controlled and more open although of course effected by the bad sound quality. He plays into the big rockstar stereotype a bit to much and his little dances around the stage were a bit weird but hey... overall he did a kick ass job.

They played quite a few covers including rocked up versions of "Purple Rain "Boys of Summer" and "Bittersweet Symphony" which included a string quartet, as well as a selection of songs from their debut album, I think "Be Yourself" was probably my favorite original. They also had a couple of massive glitter canons at either side of the stage that fired right over the crowd creating a night sky effect as the glitter reflected off the light show, it was an awesome moment.

The band seem to have been receiving a lot of flack from the media about the fact that they formed on a reality TV show (which is typical of the media - pick the angle that can be portrayed as most negative and focus on that) but if you go and see these guys it is quite clear that they put on an awesome show and with musicians like Tommy Lee and Gilby Clarke how can you really go wrong? So yes, we all know they were formed on a reality TV show, but it's time to get past that and just look at them as a rock band.

I had a great time and loved both bands, they seem to genuinely love rocking out and appreciate the crowds, there were no giant rockstar egos here, also the amount of drum sticks and guitar picks that got hurtled around the place was crazy!

Here's a very cute story from the Wellington, New Zealand show.

Young rocker meets stars
By JUDITH LACY - Tribune | Friday, 30 March 2007

She's got the mesh gloves and stud arm band and now Jaime Rivers has met rock stars Supernova.

The Tiritea eight year old was at the American band's Wellington concert last week when she approached Toby Rand, lead singer for support act Juke Kartel, to autograph her jacket.

He took a shine to the pint-size rock chick and Jaime got to go back stage and meet Supernova including drummer Tommy Lee. Her favourite is frontman Lukas Rossi, who won the position in last year's TV singing contest Rock Star Supernova. Jaime had pictures taken with the rockers and Rossi copied a tattoo on his arm onto the sleeve of her jacket. Jaime says guitarist Gilby Clarke (ex-Guns N' Roses) kept saying ``dude'' while Lee wouldn't be quiet and made fun of her.

When The Tribune visited Jaime she pulled a felt tip pen out of her drawer: ``This is the vivid that they all touched,'' she says proudly.

She's named one of her sheep Lukas and two others after Rock Star contestants Dilana and Storm.

Jaime's family reckon her love of rock music started in the womb her mum Tanya enjoys it too and says Creed is the only music her daughter would go to sleep to when young.

At three Jaime liked ACDC and Metallica. She's a seasoned concert goer having been to shows by The Bleeders, 48 May, Shihad and The Feelers.

She loves anything with skulls on even her gumboots are covered in them.

When she grows up Jaime wants to be a drummer, sell the mirrors she makes, teach people to play the drums and be in a rock band. She's already taking piano lessons and plays along to the DVD of Rock Star Supernova.
