The strongest act of the night was Australia's Juke Kartel, featuring Toby Rand, a runner-up from the "Rock Star Supernova" TV show. With his strong vocal ability and undeniable charisma, Rand clearly beat out Rossi. Rand performed covers of the Talking Heads' "Burning Down the House" and Billy Idol's "Rebel Yell" as well as original material including "Throw It Away," the song he performed on the television show.
So ok… I think I'm feeling well enough to attempt this review business.
I'm not exactly sure where to start. For those of you who have been
keeping notes, I believe I left off with you all on Friday night while I
was backstage at my cousin's college production of 42nd Street. After the
show, we booked it out of Tucson and up to Phoenix to meet up with the
rest of the Street Team girls who were all getting in from the airport.
Once we got to the hotel, I met up with Syd, Jojo, and Noelle. Then came
Boo Boo, Steph, Ann, Erica and Cho. On the way to Phoenix, I got a picture
message from Boo Boo of a table filled with liquor bottles. Needless to
say, we started drinking right away. The sex shop next to the hotel was
called "Fascinations" and was the size of Walmart. A sex shop super
store, if you will. We wanted to wait for some of the other girls to get
back from dinner before heading over. That gave us all just enough time
to get rather drunk before walking across the parking lot to the shop. On
the way, we reworded the hotel sign to read "Shake Ur Booties" which I
then got a picture of the next morning. In the shop we started taking
inappropriate pictures which sadly I have none of and I am hoping they
will surface from someone else over the next few days. We were asked to
stop photographing by an employee eventually. The sex shop was not quite
as entertaining once we weren't allowed to take pictures. I don't remember
much of the night after the sex shop visit, I'm pretty sure we all went
back to the hotel and went to bed.
The next morning I was up at 7:30am despite having gone to bed at 3
something. The farm girl in me won't let me sleep too much past sunrise.
We got up and went to the venue to upgrade our seats for the concert. My
group ended up on the floor "stage Todd" for the show. We then headed
back to the hotel to get ready for the street team lunch at 2pm. Before
leaving for lunch, someone (probably me) decided that it would be a good
idea to have a few shots. A few meaning like 4. LOL! Uh yeah. Needless
to say, I was on before we even got to lunch.
Once we got to the restaurant, we were seated as a group out on the patio
area. Kelley and Tina then disappeared, saying they had forgotten
something at the hotel. The cameras came out and the waitress came around
and took drink orders. Seeing as it was a Mexican restaurant, I thought it
was appropriate that I have a margarita. Then, out walks Todd, followed
by the rest of the JK boys. There was a few moments of craziness as we
all got over the initial shock of seeing them. Then we all began taking
pictures and greeting the boys. I have to say, I was so impressed with
these guys. They took time out to spend lunch with all of us and I
believe we were at the restaurant for 2 to 2.5 hours. After two
margaritas, I was rather gone which is probably fairly obvious by some of
the pictures I posted, LOL. Eddie referred to the drinks as "alcoholic
slurpees" and they were quite strong in my opinion. We took LOTS of
pictures at lunch, and even a little video, which I'm sure will surface
sometime in the next few days. Eventually it was decided that we all
needed to get back to the hotel to get ready (and sober up) for the show.
I honestly don't remember much about being back at the hotel and getting
ready for the show. I somehow ended up with a Heineken Light in my hand
which I'm pretty sure was a bad idea.
When we got to the venue, Diva spoke with the venue contact and we were
told that we could not distribute anything until after the show. Luckily,
I had about 100 cards hidden in my purse, which I handed out to people
near the merch line and to people seated in our section. I finally got
myself a dogtag, and they are really nice! We also smuggled in beach
balls with JK stickers on them. I won't mention where I had to put mine,
but it was not comfortable! The beach balls were Balls' idea (how
appropriate) and the plan was to blow them up as soon as we heard Electric
Mary being played, and then we were to insert the glow stick and throw the
ball once the boys came out on stage. It went very well, and it was
really cool to see all the balls go flying as the boys came out. One made
its way towards Toby on stage and he kicked it back into the audience. As
I said earlier, my group was seated to the side, "stage Todd". Toby gave
the street team a huge shout out from the stage, and pointed at our groups
(we must have been visible from the stage b/c of the glow bracelets we
were all wearing). The boys opened up with What Ya Gonna Do, followed by
Burning Down the House, December, Rebel Yell, and TIA. While they were
playing Todd kept moving towards our group and waving and blowing kisses,
lol. Then during Rebel Yell, Toby asked everyone to move up. We got
stopped by an obnoxious security guard who screamed at me right in my ear.
Then Toby actually came to our side of the stage, pointed at my group,
and gestured for us to come towards him. We rushed the security guy and
Toby reached out and grabbed my hand. We later discussed as a group how
funny it was that just a few hours earlier we had been chatting with the
boys at lunch, but then as they got onstage we all reverted to acting like
12 year old girls at an N'sync concert! The boys were incredible as
always, and I cannot wait for them to come back and be able to play a
longer set. Everyone around us said how they had wished JK played longer.
We eventually met up with Tommy and Todd outside of the pavilion area.
They chatted with us for a bit as well as with other people who were
passing by, since there was no meet and greet at this show. We made plans
to all meet up at the after party later on as well. Seeing as this was my
5th RS:SN show, I didn't really watch much of the rest of the bands. I
did notice that Gilby now has a pair of white shoes that look rather
similar to Todd's, LMAO!
We all planned to head to the afterparty in Scottsdale where Gilby would be spinning.
Kelley then said that we needed to transport the boys as well as Dilana and Magni to the party. I had
ridden with Cho, Syd, Noelle and Jojo and our car was full, so we didn't
end up taking any of them. Instead we headed back to the hotel to change
before driving out to Scottsdale. As cute as the bubblegum pink JK tanks
are (eyeroll) we didn't want to wear them out that night. Once we were
changed, we jumped in the car and made our way to the club. Cho had
thought ahead and printed out really good directions which were quite
useful. We found the club easily, and parked in front of some random
person's driveway along a side street. We ended up being the first of our
group there, so we waited outside. Finally a mini van pulls up with Jodie
driving and out come Toby, Tommy, Todd, Dilana and Magni. We all walked
into the club together and made our way to the bar. Soon, Dale and Lucy
came into the bar as well. Now, this is where things get fuzzy again for
me. I remember that there was a stage next to the DJ booth where several
of the girls and myself ended up most of the night. In my true white girl
fashion I attempted to dance with Boo Boo, Cho, Noelle, Jojo and Syd.
Thinking about it now, I am somewhat embarrassed that I was on stage, but
oh well. Toby, Tommy and Todd were all nearby talking to people and
dancing. There were lots of cameras going off (another thing that
concerns me, lol!) and the music was pretty good. I remember seeing Gilby
get into the DJ booth. I also remember seeing Johnny Colt videotaping for
a while, and eventually I bumped into Lukas briefly. I'm not sure if I
said anything more than "excuse me" lol. I personally didn't see T.Lee at
all, but I know he was there. The night was a lot of fun, definitely one
of the best I've had in a long time. Eventually it was time for the bar
to shut down, and we needed to make our way out. I didn't get to say
goodbye to Todd or Tommy, but I did get a big hug and a kiss from Toby,
who I wished a safe trip back home to Australia. I'm excited for them to
be able to go back home and play, and at the same time I miss them already
and they haven't even left the country yet.

Fark, I can't even remember what I had for dinner last night let alone try to recap what happened last weekend. Let's see...
Many drinks. Many, many fruity drinks. Lots of laughs. Surprise luncheon with the band. Kelley kissed me. Tina kicked me out of the bathroom so she could be the honorary Juke'nPuker. Operation Tuck & Blow with the glow in the dark beach balls was awesome. Crazy lady gave me her second row ticket. Grabbed Kelley and rushed to the front of the stage when Toby told everyone to come up. Gave Toby a pearl necklace. :D Didn't take any pics of the performance because I was too busy dancing my arse off to their awesome set. Froze my balls off sitting there watching Supernova. Afterparty was fun. Getting up to leave for the airport 3 hours later...not so much.

Ok my turn to reminisce on Phoenix. Good weather mostly, good friends, good drinks and Great Music. Laughed alot, nobody died, nobody cried and thats the way it should be. Highlights for me?
Seeing everyones faces including my own (jaw dropped) when the JK boys walked into our lunch, having Toby call Pooky and leave a message, Telling Tommy Kim's title (Juke Kartel Virgin) and him telling her they'd make her a Juke Kartel slut in no time on the phone, Being front row for the show and Toby giving us a shout out while on stage, meeting Lucy, the ride to the afterparty, breezing into the afterparty without paying cover, and not puking, yay!

I think my only post in the nuked thread said something insightful and witty like “they kicked ass,” so I’ll try to add more this time. That said --
THEY KICKED ASS!
Having only seen them play smallish clubs, I had been a little worried that they might be a bit lost on a bigger stage, but that went away as soon as they came out. Their energy level was amazing! All of them were on it.
The shout-outs and nods to the ST made it extra fun for us, but they rocked the entire house (about 4,000 people in an 8,000 seater) aaaaaallll the way to the back. Everyone was on their feet for the entire set, even the good ol’ boys sitting behind us. (Steph and I chatted them up before the show and they were a little incredulous that a bunch of us had flown in just to see the band, but they got it afterward!)
They had so little time onstage but made the most of every second. If I were sharing a bill with JK? I’d insist on going first so I wouldn’t have to follow them. *cough* They put the bar up very, very high that night, and they’ve gotten better every time I’ve heard them. (Speaking of which, I have to mention Eddie … his kit was so far stage left it was practically in the next county and we could barely see him, but everyone around us definitely felt him. He’s not physically imposing, but he plays like a giant. That is all.)
The next tour can’t get here soon enough! I’m already beating on all my friends to get tickets.
Lunch at Macayo’s was a blast. It would have been fun without the band, to be honest (ssssh!), because we are a fabulous and amusing group of people … but it was extra special because they were there. They’re so genuinely nice, and really indulgent of us as well with all our pulling on them for photos and phone calls and autographs. I keep watching for warning signs that they’re getting jaded or jacked up, but all clear so far. Big, big thanks to Kelley, Tina, the guys, and all the ST’ers who were there in person and in spirit for a wonderful afternoon.

I look so fricking puffy and thrashed in all the photos from that weekend I really can’t deal, but here’s one just for y’all. Back story:
I’m at the far end of the patio with Anita’s cousin, away from the action, when Toby comes bounding over.
“Hey, let’s take a picture!” He motions to the appetizer plate. “Yeah, you!”
“What? You can’t take a photo of a fat girl putting food in her mouth! That’s humiliating!”
He grabs my camera and a taco.
“Both of us. It’ll be funny!”
“To you!”
“Do it! Come on!”
*grumble*
Now at that point two things were going through my mind: one, he might be right -- it could really be funny. And two: after a grand total of about 30 seconds of chitchat, he has correctly sized me up as someone who will do just about anything for a laugh.
